Hello all you wonderful Cal Dems on summer vacation! I hope your  
summer is going well and that you ladies and gentlemen will be ready  
to rev things back up in the fall. :D Have fun this Fourth of July!
Fourth of July fun history fact: The Declaration of Independence was  
approved on July 4, 1776, but Independence Day did not become a legal  
holiday until 1941.

CAL DEMS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

- If any of you are around Berkeley the first weekend of August and  
are interested in going on a white water rafting trip, email either  
me or Molly (molly at caldems.com). The trip is not finalized until we  
know how many people are interested, but will probably cost around  
$70 dollars per person for the day.

Joan Buchanan for Assembly

The Danville July 4th Parade is a BIG event for the district and a  
great opportunity to show how
much support Joan has out here for her race. We are hoping to have  
about 100
people there to walk with Joan and will have t-shirts for you to  
wear  and
signs to carry. Additionally, there will be a free thank-you barbeque
catered by Back Forty at Osage park immediately following the parade at
which we hope to have your company.

*When*: We will be meeting for the parade at 8:30 AM on Friday, July  
4th.
The parade begins at 9am and will end between 11am and noon. The  
picnic will
begin immediately after we complete our parade route.

*Where*: Meet in *Trader Joe's parking lot at 85 Railroad Avenue in  
Danville
*.  Our assigned parade staging area is *"D"*, which is located near  
Trader
Joe's at the corner of *Love Lane* and *Railroad Avenue*.  After the  
parade,
we will be meeting at *Osage Park at 816 Brookside Drive, Danville*.

*Additional Details: *

-There will be a shuttle available at the end of the parade to take  
walkers
back to their staging areas
-Keep in mind that Hartz Avenue, the Sycamore Valley Road exit west, and
Diablo Road at Hartz Avenue will be closed at 6:30am due to the  
parade.  The
best route to reach the staging area is El Cerro Boulevard.

  This is a top tier targeted race by the Republicans and only

Bay Area Regional Coordinator for Barack Obama

Hi Everyone,

We are still looking for a Bay Area Regional Coordinator! This is an
exciting opportunity to become involved with the statewide Barack Obama
campaign. This position would start immediately and lasts through  
Election
Day. Although this is a volunteer position, if selected, you will be
intensely involved in the creation and execution of the California field
operations for Students for Barack Obama.

Here's a little description:

Regional Coordinators: It is the responsibility of the Regional
Coordinator to effectively communicate the state field plan to the
existing chapters and update the State and Field Coordinators with the
field activities of the chapters in their region. He/she assists each
chapter in the region with executing these activities by providing
guidance, motivation, and direction to each student organizer. This
position is a part time commitment.

graduates for September-December 2008 to assist professional staff.
Responsibilities include conducting research, assisting with press  
events,
and strategically thinking with staff members regarding different
governmental issues. Candidates should possess strong writing and

skills.  Prior political experience is preferred; Spanish fluency a  
plus.
Full-time and part-time internships are available.  You can learn more

The Institute for Human Studies Internship

The Institute for Humane Studies has two paid Fall internship  
programs for
students interested in pairing their background in government and
political science with the world of communication. Previous  
experience in either
field is not required. Applicants should have a passion for the  
principles
and ideas of liberty. The deadline to apply is July 1.

IHS Broadcast Journalism Internships
This program offers hands-on radio or broadcast journalism  
internships with
an experienced producer at a major media network or news production  
house.
We've placed interns at CNN in Atlanta, ABC's 20/20 in Manhattan, Fox  
News
in Los Angeles, and MSNBC among others. All placements include a stipend
and housing allowance. Outstanding writers and communicators from any
discipline who have an interest in journalism are encouraged to apply.
Students in the humanities and sciences are often highly sought after  
for

A great opportunity to spend the Fall shadowing an experienced  
producer at
a busy production company, shooting film, working on video game  
animation,
or building up your screenwriting skills. In the past, interns have been

Experience with editing and/or filming is preferred, but not required.

Vote for Change visibility events, Students for Change, Benefit Concerts

Vote for Change visibility event(s): Progressive-Alliance.org is  
looking for
volunteers, for the following Vote for Change visibility event(s).
Volunteers are asked to cover 1 hour shifts; but of course, 2 hours  
would be
great.  The objectives are visibility, voter and volunteer outreach, and
voter registration.

Students for Change: Progressive-Alliance.org is looking for San  
Francisco
State University students and UC Berkeley students, to whom a Vote for
Change display, buttons, lapel stickers, and window signs will be  
provided;
with the understanding that all donations received, will be used for  
a Free
Campus Concert for Change at their campus and future visibility  
efforts in
Nevada or New Mexico.  Ideally students should be able to provide 1  
hour of
visibility, between 11am & 1pm, on their quad, once a week.

Benefit Concerts for Change: Progressive-Alliance.org is also looking

volunteers, students, and student groups; to help organize Benefit  
Concerts
for Change; which will benefit participating student groups in Nevada
