Hey Everyone! Thanks to all of you who showed up to our first meeting on
Thursday…I hear it was awesome (sorry I couldn’t be there, although I hope
all of you enjoyed the Reagan cutout)! For all who didn’t make it out, we
hope to see you at this Thursday’s meeting.

CAL DEMS ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Meeting
This Thursday (September 13) marks the beginning of our regular semester
meetings. You will now find us in 56 Barrows (it’s in the basement) at
7pm. We’ll be discussing how to be a good Democrat at Berkeley during
this meeting, including who you should and shouldn’t avoid, and you may
even get to enjoy an interpretive reading of a certain right-leaning
publication on campus. Come out to learn how to be a real liberal while
you enjoy your college days at Cal.
-PVC
The first meeting for the Policy Values and Communication Committee will
be this Wednesday (September 12) at 7pm in 115 Barrows. Join us at the
meeting and learn how to become even more involved in Cal Dems!
-Smart Ass
The first meeting for Smart Ass will be this Thursday, September 13, right
after the general Cal Dems meeting. You won’t even have to move because
it will also be in 56 Barrows.
-IT Director Position
Want to put your web design and programming skills to work? Cal Dems
is looking for a new IT Director to take care of the website and other
technological needs of the club. If you're interested, contact Nathan

chancellor, and will be held on September 11th at noon on Upper Sproul.
-John Edwards Campaign, save the Date: Tuesday, September 25th
Come be part of the John Edwards Campaign! Berkeley One Corps, the
grassroots wing of the campaign, will have a meeting in the back room of
Au Coquelet cafe at 7.30 pm on September 25th.
It will be an opportunity to meet other Edwards supporters, discuss
ideas/strategies for taking Alameda County for John Edwards, and to sign
up for specific regional efforts. Come be part of history, and take the
power away from the lobbyists and Washington insiders. Join the candidate
who supports unions and college education for every American.

PROGRESSIVE OPPORTUNITIES:
-Barack Obama Campaign
Vote Hope, a progressive organization working to support Barack Obama in
California, is looking for someone to fill the position of East Bay
Student Organizer. The Organizer will be working with 5 different
campuses (CSU East Bay, Laney College, Merritt College, UC Berkeley and
Contra Costa College) to establish a campaign strategy on the respective
campuses and will be in charge of finding volunteers and working on voter
registration and mobilization on the campuses. It is a part time position
starting ASAP and the pay will be $1000. If interested, send an e-mail

-Working to keep Indian Gaming Contracts
Ron Luk from the East Bay Young Dems is working on a project which is a
statewide campaign to help keep gaming contracts which contribute millions
of dollars to the general fund (paying for services such as law
enforcement and safety) between Native American tribes and the State. If
you are interested in organizing an effort to help educate the public on
this issue, contact Ron at 925-880-6362. The pay is $10-$15 per hour.
