CAL DEMS ANNOUNCEMENTS

>>Policy, Values, and Communication Committee Meeting
Wednesday February 28, 7pm, 186 Barrows

Come join in the last of the month's health care themed events. Half of
the meeting will be short presentations on the state of health care in
other countries with discussion to follow. The other half will be debate
prep to get our debaters in top shape for Thursday's debate with BCR.

>>Debate with Berkeley College Republicans
Thursday March 1, 7pm, 170 Barrows

Come on over and watch the walking oxymorons, err... the Berkeley
Conservatives, backpedal their way out of corner painted a brilliantly
xenophobic orange as they go foot-to-mouth with our very own Cal Dems in a
great debate on California's immigration laws. So just how legal IS
California's own Kindergarten Cop and what insurance plan will he be
utilizing the next time his femur goes into a war of secession with
itself? Come find out as we will ALSO be discussing the Eraser's health
care plan for Cahl-E-Fornyah. Seeya there!

PROGRESSIVE QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

"We naturally associate democracy, to be sure, with freedom of action, but
freedom of action without freed capacity of thought behind it is only
chaos."

-John Dewey

UPCOMING EVENTS

>>Lobby for longer business hours on Telegraph
Wednesday February 28, 7pm - 10pm, North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901
Hearst Ave. (corner of Hearst and MLK)

Join ACCESS to lobby a proposal, before the Planning Commission's final
vote, to extend most business by-right hours to 12 AM on weeknights and 2
AM on weekends. Currently any business open later than 10pm in Berkeley
must apply for a special permit. Several neighborhood associations are
currently mobilizing to block this proposal, generating a greater need for
student lobbyists to come show their support. Questions? Please contact
Alex at alex_lemberg at berkeley.edu
