PROGRESSIVE QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"Rather than distance ourselves from the past, as the centrist amnesiacs
would counsel, perhaps we should finally peel back the scabs and take a
closer look at why all the wounds haven't healed."

UPCOMING EVENTS
>>2007 Human Rights Watch International Film Festival
Friday February 23 - Sunday February 25, see times on website, BAM/PFA
Since it began in 1988, the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival
has become the leading showcase for films from around the world that open
our eyes to a variety of human rights injustices. This year's program
exposes the human cost of global commodities, from petroleum to coffee;
investigates the consequences of war and its after-effects in everyday
life; and offers inspiring portraits of activism and resistance. Full
program and ticket information for the film festival is here:
http://bampfa.berkeley.edu/pfa_programs/humanrights07/index.html
>>Cal Lobby Day
Thursday March 15, 8am, Sacramento
For one day each year, students of Cal trek to California's capitol to
send a message to our legislators. This year the message is education
affordability. For the past five years, the excellence of UC and Cal
has been put in jeopardy by a legislature that has consistently slashed
the funding of higher education. Although last year Governor
Schwarzenegger announced a freeze on student fees, this year the prices
are rising. For more information and to sign-up visit the facebook group
