Cal Berkeley Democrats
The Cal Berkeley Democrats was founded in 1960 and is the official arm of the Democratic Party at the University of California, Berkeley. We have a strong tradition of being involved in Democratic politics at both the local and state levels – our members have worked on city council races, presidential campaigns, and everything in between. We have the largest active membership of chapters among the California College Democrats. We are also one of the most active chapters of the California Young Democrats. In addition to working to get Democratic officials elected, our annual events include the California Democratic Party Convention, various community service projects, partaking in debates on-campus, and a variety of other social and professional events. The Cal Berkeley Democrats are committed to making the goals of the Democratic Party realities; these include but are not limited to – affordable higher education, good jobs with good pay, responsible environmental use, and affordable health care for every American.
We have an incredibly active membership and an amazing year planned – so join us! We’d love to have you!
Policy, Values and Communications Committee (PVC)
The Policy, Values, and Communications Committee is the “think tank” of Cal Dems. Members meet once a week to discuss politics, policy, and current events. They also track the news, manage the Cal Dems blog, and sprearhead legislative advocacy. To join PVC, come to our meetings on Tuesdays, at 7pm in 129 Barrows.
Public Relations Team
The Public Relations Team hit the streets in the summer of 2009 to actively promote the Cal Berkeley Democrats. We’re proud of what we’ve done in our founding stages, and plan to do even more to increase the visibility of the club, from advertising guest lecturers and co-sponsoring political forums to creating issue-advocacy films and helping Cal Dems members connect with the media to get their voices heard. Our team members have various skills and interests, but we do not expect new members to have a background in media or PR before joining; PR Team is a space for anyone willing to put aside a little time to learn how to keep our community updated on what Cal Dems is doing, making, supporting, and discussing. Stop by 104 Dwinelle any Wednesday at 6pm to get involved.
