Cal Dems in the News
Though the year just started, Cal Dems have been active all summer. The issues—health care and our budget crisis among them—didn’t pause, and neither did we.
Our president Claire Viall, California College Dems president Ian Magruder, and I penned an op-ed in response to the plan to eliminate Cal Grants, which provide financial aid to low-income college students. Our op-ed appeared in The Daily Cal, and it was quoted in the Contra Costa Times.
But that’s not all. ASUC Senator Ariel Boone, Smart Ass Editor-In-Chief Mia Pskowski, and I also wrote another op-ed concerning the deep cuts in our state budget. We deplored the loss of crucial programs, and suggested meaningful alternatives. Our work was picked up again by The Daily Cal, and by The Berkeley Daily Planet.
Ariel, a fellow Cal Dem, also wrote an amazing piece on women’s’ pay in the White House. It was linked by Matthew Yglesias and Politico, and ultimately posted on the Huffington Post. I highly recommend it; it’s a great read.
Again, we’d love to hear from all of you. If you’re interested in blogging or have a piece you want to see featured, email me at nidixit [at] gmail.com.
